When it comes to treating patients, most medical staff work tirelessly to make sure they are as content and comfortable as possible — like this sweet hospice nurse.

But many times, their jobs stretch far past the medical procedures themselves.

Patients and their family undergo many emotional moments when they are being treated, which means their doctors and nurses serve as a support system as well as caregivers.

Never was this more prevalent than with Peter DeMarco and his wife, Laura Levis, who passed away at Boston’s CHA Cambridge Hospital after being treated for a severe asthma attack.

Though DeMarco suffered an unbelievable loss, he was still incredibly thankful for all of the hospital staff that treated his late wife with respect and dignity.

In an online letter that has been republished in the New York Times, DeMarco details all of the amazing little ways the doctors, nurses, and staff made the incredibly hard situation a little more bearable for the couple.
